What is enrichment?

In an experimental setting,

an enriched environment

is ‘enriched’ in relation to

standard laboratory

housing conditions

“a combination of complex

inanimate and

social stimulation”

Implies that…

relevance of single

contributing factors...

cannot be easily isolated

but

there are good reasons to assume

it is the interaction of factors

is an essential element of an enriched environment

not any single element that is hidden in the complexity

the effects of enriched environment have been tested,

Particularly

how environmental enrichment affects the brain

the ‘learning and memory’ hypothesis

it is difficult to prove

the neural consequences of the enriched environment
